About Florist Window

Florist Window Ltd provides an all-in-one eCommerce and content management system designed specifically for florists. Think of it like Wix or Shopify but developed from the ground up for the floral industry. Our platform empowers florists to showcase and sell their arrangements online, manage orders effortlessly, and offer a delightful shopping experience for local customers. By joining our team, you’ll play a major role in enhancing and growing our innovative florist-focused platform.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

1. Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Responsive Design Principles

  • Semantic HTML: Ability to write clean, well-structured markup that follows modern best practices, ensuring websites are search-engine-friendly and accessible.
  • Advanced CSS & Preprocessors: Comfortable with CSS (and possibly Sass or LESS), including creating responsive layouts that adapt to various devices and screen sizes.
  • JavaScript Fundamentals: Skilled at building interactive elements, handling DOM manipulation, and integrating external libraries or frameworks to improve user experience.
  • Mobile-First Approach: Solid understanding of responsive design principles, ensuring optimal browsing whether on desktops, tablets, or smartphones.

2. Experience with CMS Platforms

  • Florist Window CMS: Our in-house platform is coded from scratch to help florists easily create and manage their online stores. Your role will involve customising and improving this system for seamless site creation, content updates, and order processing.
  • General CMS Knowledge: Familiarity with other popular CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Joomla, or Drupal) is beneficial, but adapting to our florist-focused solution is the main priority.
  • Template Customisation & Feature Development: Comfortable editing or writing templates and introducing new features that elevate the end-user experience.

3. Strong Understanding of UX/UI Principles

  • User-Centred Design: All decisions from page layout to navigational elements should be guided by the user’s journey to ensure a pleasant experience.
  • Visual Consistency & Branding: The ability to coordinate colour palettes, typography, and design elements that reflect each florist’s unique brand identity.
  • Wireframing & Prototyping: Proficient with design tools for creating mock-ups, enabling smooth collaboration with stakeholders before full development.
  • Accessibility & Usability: Keeping up with best practices such as appropriate colour contrast, descriptive labels, and keyboard-friendly navigation to make sites accessible to all users.

4. Ability to Troubleshoot, Test, and Optimise for Performance

  • Debugging & Problem-Solving: Quickly identify and resolve coding issues or performance bottlenecks to maintain a smooth user experience.
  • Cross-Browser Compatibility: Ensure websites function consistently across different browsers and devices, providing a seamless experience for all visitors.
  • Load Speed & Core Web Vitals: Use tools like Lighthouse or GTmetrix to measure and optimise page load times, including code, images, and other site assets.
  • Security & Updates: Proactively apply updates to the CMS, patch vulnerabilities, and adhere to the latest security standards.

Bonus: Experience in eCommerce or Retail Platforms

  • Payment Gateways & Shopping Carts: Familiarity with popular eCommerce transaction flows, shipping integrations, or POS (Point-of-Sale) systems.
  • Catalogue Management: Understanding how to effectively organise and present a florist’s offerings — such as seasonal arrangements, wedding packages, and subscription bouquets to boost sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Conversion Optimisation: Experience with A/B testing, data analysis, and techniques that increase user engagement and drive higher revenue in online stores.

Graphic Design Skills Essential

An essential part of designing for florists is the ability to create customised, eye-catching graphics that reflect each client’s unique floral arrangements and brand. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop for image editing and manipulation is a must, enabling you to produce high-quality visuals, whether it’s adjusting colours to match a florist’s signature palette or creating promotional banners for seasonal campaigns. By combining strong graphic design skills with an understanding of florist-specific branding, you’ll be well-equipped to deliver an engaging online experience that stands out in a competitive market.

Graphic Design is a key role for any designer looking to create eye-catching websites. Being able to create graphics using one of the five software programmes shown below is a must for this position:

  1. Adobe Photoshop – Industry-leading software for image editing and composition.
  2. Adobe Illustrator – Vector-based design programme ideal for logos and scalable graphics.
  3. Adobe InDesign – Essential for layout and print materials, such as brochures and catalogues.
  4. Figma – Popular collaborative tool for UI/UX design and prototyping.
  5. Canva – User-friendly, template-driven platform suitable for quick social media and marketing graphics.
